Who are we?
We are Tech Watch, a group of legal experts, policy advocates, researchers, and former public servants who support state attorneys general in protecting consumers and competition in the digital age. The founders of Tech Watch are listed techwatch.io.
What personal data do we collect and why?
This notice applies to individuals who interact with Tech Watch’s website [email protected]. The type of personal data we collect from you depends on the type of personal data you choose to share with us.
Newsletter
- On our website, you have the option to sign up for our newsletter via a link. If you choose to do this, we will collect your name and email address to send you the newsletter. There is also a field for you to provide your State Attorney General Office.
- We will, by necessity, share your email address with our email service provider, MailChimp. You can view MailChimp’s privacy statement here.
Other
- Should you choose to contact us at our contact email address, we will keep records of our interactions with you, for example, our email correspondence.
- We may also keep other records of our interactions with you, like notes of meetings.
What about sensitive personal data?
Some personal data is more sensitive than other data (for example, information about your health, your sexual orientation or sex life, your political affiliation, or your race and ethnicity). We try to minimise our collection of sensitive personal data, but sometimes it may be necessary (for example, if you sign up for an event and provide dietary requirements). We will always make sure we collect and use such information lawfully.
Do we keep your personal data secure?
We try as hard as we can to keep your data safe. For example, we make sure that only people who need to can see your data and we encrypt data where we can.
Do we share your personal data?
Yes. We may share your personal data with the founding organisations named above for the purposes of the Tech Watch coalition work. We may share your personal data in other circumstances, for example, to comply with legal obligations on us.
Managing Your Personal Information
We limit the personal information we collect and use
As mentioned above, we take care to ensure that the information you provide to us is only accessed and used by those who need to.We try to make sure your personal information is accurate
We take reasonable steps to make sure your personal information is accurate, complete, and up to date. For example, if we receive a bounce-back from an email sent to you we will remove that email from our lists. If you have concerns, you can always contact us to verify your information (see the contact details set out below). Despite our best efforts, errors sometimes happen. If you notice anything incorrect with your information, please let us know and we will remedy it.We only keep your information for as long as we reasonably need it
We will only keep your personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary within the objective of advancing the Tech Watch coalition work. Again, should you no longer be interested in receiving the Tech Watch newsletter or corresponding with us via other means, you can always unsubscribe. We may not always be able to comply with your request if there are specific legal reasons for us needing to use your information, but we will let you know if that’s the case.You can request access to your personal information
Subject to certain limitations you can request access to your personal information. We may need to check to make sure that it’s really you - for example, by asking for an ID.
